The current status of the DC Extended Universe is difficult. There have been numerous and significant changes since James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on board to steer the series. The company most recently reneged on its prior promise to recast Henry Cavill as Superman, with Gunn announcing a new movie starring a younger Superman. Rumors have been circulating that the whole DCEU would be recast in order to conform to Gunn and Safran’s vision moving forward after it was reported that Jason Momoa could quit the role of Aquaman after the forthcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Gunn, however, clarified earlier today on Twitter that they do not presently have any plans to accomplish such a thing, putting an end to the rumour.

“I constantly coming across blogs that promote this false notion. Except for The Suicide Squad, we’re not recasting everyone “After a user inquired about the fate of the present actors in the DCEU, Gunn answered. The implication is that any recasting will only be carried out in order to better suit the tales Gunn and Safran intend to convey. That includes Cavill, who will ultimately be replaced in Gunn’s film by a younger actor.

Furthermore, there were rumours that the casts of just the films that Gunn had previously directed would remain, while the others would be recast in order to start again. Keeping the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker cast members around while getting rid of everyone else would be required. He was sufficiently ambiguous to provide room for a complete relaunch, although at this time it doesn’t seem probable that they will. In actuality, we won’t know who’s still on board until Gunn and Safran present their specific future strategy.
