Deadline reported that as of Wednesday, Avatar: The Way of Water has raked in $609.7 million at the international box office, demonstrating how popular James Cameron’s return to Pandora has become. The movie has made $183 million domestically and $426.8 million internationally as of this writing.

With a total of $14.3 million, the film now holds the second-largest Wednesday of the year, falling short of Top Gun: Maverick’s $14.8 million. Its current daily box office total points to a solid domestic run that will see additional growth throughout the holidays. It remains to be seen if it can surpass Maverick’s $719 million domestic haul. The movie’s domestic performance will, however, become more obvious in the coming weeks.

The movie continues to have widespread popularity abroad, with China continuing to be its greatest market and bringing in an extra $70.5 million despite significant COVID outbreaks, while France’s contribution brought in an additional $37 million. Along with $26.5 million in ticket sales from India and $26.1 million from Germany, the movie is also gaining a lot of interest in Korea with $32.1 million. The movie is now ranked behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and ahead of Thor: Love and Thunder as the fifth-highest-grossing Hollywood movie abroad in 2022.
