Ron Howard says that a sequel to the 2018 film Solo is not in the works from LucasFilms. The director said that any word that a film is coming is strictly from the fans and that the studio has other priorities. Right now, the most extensive discussion about the Solo sequel comes from enthusiastic fans in online forums such as Star Wars fan websites, YouTube channels, and message boards.

“The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for ‘Solo’ is coming from the fans at this point.”

Plot points of Solo introduced a young Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich (Brave New World), and Lando Calrissian, portrayed by Donald Glover (Atlanta). The film was intended to be the starting point for more stories to expand on these characters; however, that changed when the first Star Wars prequel bombed at the theaters, only pulling in $392 million globally, which is part of the reason Howard does not see the studio investing in another film. The release did not match the expectations of the studio.
