Fans may finally know why Amanda Seyfried couldn’t accept her Golden Globe for her work on The Dropout, which instantly caused a stir online. According to presenters Mo Brings Plenty and Cole Hauser, Seyfried wasn’t in attendance because she was “deep in the process of creating a new musical.” The next day, Seyfried said the following in a video posted to Instagram:
While it’s one thing to know that Seyfried is working on a new musical project, that certainly begs the question of what it is. There are hundreds of existing musicals to choose from without getting into ones that still need to be created. Online, many speculated that Seyfried is working on a third Mamma Mia! The hit musical was made into a movie in 2008 with an all-star cast. It was followed by a sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, in 2018.
For those suspecting or even hoping for a Mamma Mia! 3, insiders have informed Variety of how anyone making that guess has been way off. According to them, Seyfried is workshopping a musical adaptation of Thelma & Louise. Presumably, Seyfried will be playing one of the title characters.
