Since the 2007 release of Welcome, Majnu Bhai, the art-obsessed thug played by Anil Kapoor, has become a recognisable figure. Even now, more than ten years later, Anees Bazmee’s family comedy is still hilarious and can teach modern slapstick writers a thing or two.
Anil Kapoor said why he considers Majnu to be one of his favourite characters, saying, “Majnu bhai’s persona was really fascinating to play. I didn’t feel like I was pretending, and it just came to me. The part was made simple and enjoyable by Anees Bhai’s writing and directing, as well as Nana’s performance as the ideal co-star.
Anil commented on the love Majnu bhai enjoys among the cast and Gen Z when asked about it, saying, “I see so many recreations of his conversations on social media and it’s remarkable how he is still relevant even to the Gen Z. The character’s words and swag will quickly brighten your day.
The debut of Welcome occurred on December 21, 2007. Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Malaika Sherawat, and Feroz Khan were among the ensemble cast members in the Anees Bazmee-directed film.
