With its newest entry, the “Disney Princess” franchise is about to go Desi.
The director of “Bride and Prejudice,” Gurinder Chadha, and writer Paul Mayeda Berges have been commissioned by the House of Mouse to create an original musical film, according to a report by US entertainment publication Deadline.
Chadha and Berges collaborated on the script, with Chadha also serving as producer and director. Producer Lindy Goldstein of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will also be a part of the crew.
The movie’s plot has not yet been revealed in any detail. However, according to a report by Deadline, Sean Bailey, President of the Walt Disney Motion Picture Production, will be in charge of the project.
Chadha, owner of the business “Bend It Films,” has produced movies that have raked in more than $300 million USD at the global box office. According to Deadline, she received two BAFTA Award nominations: one for “Bhaji on the Beach,” her directorial debut, and another for “Bend It Like Beckham.”
The latter was the most lucrative British-financed and distributed feature film in the UK box office at the time, grossing a total of 76 million USD globally.
