Despite the uncertainty surrounding Dwayne Johnson’s antihero, HBO Max is seeing high viewership for Black Adam. Black Adam made its premiere on the streaming service this week, and after only one day, it has surpassed Amsterdam to claim the top spot. The remaining three films in the Top 5 are A Star Is Born, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Elf. Like with Netflix, the Top 10 isn’t accessible to users on HBO Max, although the list may be obtained at Flix Patrol (via ComicBook.com).

After falling short of studio expectations at the box office during its theatrical run, Black Adam has now achieved success. The film’s production allegedly cost $200 million, without including any additional expenses for promotion. However, it goes without saying that the intention was for Warner Bros. to use the highly anticipated movie to compete with blockbusters like The Batman, which made over $770 million when it opened in theatres earlier this year. Contrarily, Black Adam has made roughly $390 million at the global movie office, which isn’t bad, but is still at least several hundred million short of what Warner Bros. Discovery executives were probably looking for.

Black Adam was a passion project for The Rock that took many years to complete. The Justice Society of America was established in the film, which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starred The Rock in the title character with Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. The movie follows Adam as he takes on a crime gang to free the Kahndaq country after being released from a magical prison.
