RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has become one of the most popular movies in India at the box office and has earned high praise from critics there.
The New York Film Critics Circle’s Best Director Award was given to director SS Rajamouli on Friday for his work on RRR.
The competition, which included Steven Spielberg, Darron Aronofsky, Sarah Polley, and Gina Prince-Blythewood, was shocked by Rajamouli’s victory.
At the international box office, the movie has brought in more than Rs 1,200 crore. The makers submitted RRR in 14 categories as part of the “For your consideration” campaign even though the movie did not submit an official entry for the Oscars in 2023.
The RRR team requested consideration in a number of categories, such as Best Picture (DVV Danayya), Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan), Best Supporting Actor (Ajay Devgn), Best Supporting Actress (Alia Bhatt), and others.
