RRR appears to know no bounds a day after making waves on social media for earning five nominations at the Critics Choice Awards. The previously announced Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) Awards have now added eight more nominations for the SS Rajamouli-directed action spectacular, including in significant categories like Best Picture and Best Director.

The other six categories the film fetched a nomination under include Best International Film, Best Action Film, Best Editing, Best VFX, Best Original Song and Best Stunts.

It is to be noted that SS Rajamouli has been nominated in the Best Director category alongside internationally-renowned names such as Park Chan-Wook and Steven Spielberg while the film itself will be competing with Avatar: The Way of Water, Tár, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Elvis in the Best Picture category.

The film, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, was released in India earlier in March and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films in the country, before going on to forge a strong impression–both critically and commercially–across foreign markets such as the US and Japan.

Although the decision of the Film Federation of India to choose The Last Show over RRR as India’s official submission to the Academy Awards was met with intense and divisive reactions from the fans and film community, it is now certain that everyone is breathing a sigh of relief seeing the film perform exceptionally well at the pre-cursor award ceremonies.
