Minister of State L. Murugan announced that Carlos Saura, a 90-year-old Spanish film director, photographer, and writer, will receive the prestigious Satyajit Ray Award this year during the curtain raiser of the 53rd International Film Festival of India.
L Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, made the announcement regarding the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the curtain raiser of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI).The minister stated, “We will present the prestigious award to Carlos Saura, a Spanish filmmaker, photographer, and writer who is 90 years old.”From November 20 to November 28, the film gala will be held in Panaji, Goa.Additionally, three films starring Asha Parekh will be shown.According to Ravinder Bhakar, managing director of the National Film Development Corporation of India, the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award chose Teesri Manzil (1966), Do Badan (1966), and Kati Patang (1971) for the same.
Five Manipuri films, including Ishanou (The Chosen One) and Ratan Thiyam – the Man of the Theatre, will be shown to commemorate Manipur’s 50th anniversary in film.A special screening of two films, Chello Show (2021) and India Lockdown, as well as five other classics that have been restored by the NFDC under the Indian Restored Classic Section, will take place at the Indian Panorama section.
Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri, Kathak master Pandit Birju Maharaj, and actors Ramesh Deo and T. Rama Rao, among others, will be honored in the homage section.In the global recognition area, motion pictures by producers Wharf Paolo Pasolini and Jean Luc Godard will be screened.
Bhaker disclosed that the viewing room has received 248 entries in 33 spoken languages for the film bazaar.The bazaar recommends section will feature approximately twenty films.
In order to promote inclusivity, the Oscar-winning film Gandhi will be shown in the Divyangjan (visually impaired) section with embedded audio descriptions and subtitles.
The spring festival Shigmotsav, the Goa Carnival, the 53-hour challenge for 75 creative minds, the country and state pavilions at the film bazaar, and other attractions will be major draws at IFFI 2022.
